When you contact the Louisiana Center for Weight Loss Surgery, Dr. Walter Sartor and the LCWLS staff will begin the qualifying process, which will include some medical tests as well as a discussion of your health history and previous attempts to lose weight.

Together, you and your surgeon will determine if you are a candidate for surgery and which procedure is right for you. You also will discuss whether you are mentally and emotionally prepared to make lifelong lifestyle changes and if you will have the necessary support system around you.

If you and your doctor agree that surgery is right for you, you will meet with a nutritionist and other support staff members in sessions leading up to surgery. They will help you prepare for the changes and challenges ahead.

The LCWLS offers Gastric Banding, Gastric Bypass, and Gastric Sleeve surgery. Dr. Walter Sartor, bariatric surgeon, will discuss with you which procedure is preferred for you and what to expect from the type you choose. Gastric Bypass surgery will be performed at St. Francis Medical Center. Gastric Banding is performed at P&S Surgical Hospital. Gastric Sleeve surgery is performed at P&S Surgical Hospital.
